Dental hygiene

26/03/2025

For healthy, strong teeth and a healthy oral mucosa, good oral hygiene is very important. The best prevention of tooth decay is regular dental hygiene.
Dental hygiene is an effective therapeutic and preventive method that helps protect teeth from:

 - tooth decay
 - prevents the development of inflammatory diseases in the oral cavity
- tooth loss

How often should dental hygiene be performed? Visits are individual depending on the patient, the condition of the teeth and dental hygiene.

Usually it is 2 times a year, this also applies to children under the age of 18, for patients suffering from increased tartar build-up and periodontitis, 2-4 times a year is recommended, for pregnant women we recommend at least twice during pregnancy.

Dental hygiene is not in itself painful, but each person has a different pain threshold, for someone it may be more uncomfortable for someone not at all. The condition of the patient's teeth and gums plays a big role, e.g. if the patient has exposed molars the sensitivity during hygiene will obviously be higher.

It is not necessary to prepare for it specially, but it should be a matter of course that the patient brushes his teeth before the visit.

Dental hygiene procedure:

- Assessment of bleeding gums
 - training and instruction in tooth brushing and individual recommendation of dental appliances
removal of tartar by ultrasound and, if necessary, manual curettes
- polishing - polishing with prophylactic toothpaste and brush
sandblasting of teeth using the airflow method, which removes plaque, pigments and restores the original enamel colour
- fluoridation of teeth
